Toi Doi - France
The name Toi Doi hides the talented Gilles Coia from the suburbs of Paris, and from the deep underground of the musical scene of the city. His musical roots are rather in ballet and jazz.
Toi Doi's first release 'Asymptot' on POF was followed by support from Goa Gil, who stood behind the exposure of Toi Doi. As an outcome, 'Particule', the first Toi Doi track on Avatar, was released in 1998.
For several years, Toi Doi has experimented with synthesizers and new machines, exploring and inventing sounds. Toi Doi's music is the outcome of hard work and devotion, exposing just one side of his life story.
Toi Doi's studio is located in the hunters lodging, in an estate of an aristocratic family outside of Paris. The landscape of the surrounding forests and their wildlife is another source of inspiration in writing the extraordinary and original music he creates. His music runs from fusion of psychedelic hypnotic trance with science fiction influences to trip hop and ambient.
His debut album on Avatar is appropriately named 'Technologic'. It's probably his most popular and best album to date. A creation based on technology and logic, two elements which accompany Toi Doi on his day to day life.
His 'Contact' on Avatar's 'Nightvision' compilation is another bright light on his impressive resume. Toi Doi is one of the more respected psy artists, and is probably one of the preferred ambassadors to come out of France.
